Why we admitted only 3,500 candidates instead of 8,000 NUC approved – LASU VC

By Elizabeth Uwandu …As institution denies increase of varsity fees Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, LASU Ojo, has stated that lack of infrastructures made the institution not to admit the 8,000 candidates approved by the National Universities Commission, NUC for 2017/2018 academic session. LASU The VC stated this recently at the LASU land regularization exercise with stakeholders that revealed that over 75% of the institution’s land was encroached upon. “Our decision to admit only 3,500 candidates as against the 8,000 approved by NUC was due to limitation of space. So, the exercise will help us reclaim LASU land back that will enable more infrastructures set up,” said LASU helmsman. In a related develop met, Mr Ademola Adekoya, Coordinator, Centre for information, press and public relations, CIPPR has debunked the rumour that the institution has increased its tuition fee. In a statement, Mr Adekoya said LASU only increased its admission fees from N10,000 to N20,000. The release read, “The attention of the Lagos State University Management has again been drawn to the erroneous insinuations making the rounds, especially on the Social Media, regarding a plan to increase or purported increase in the Tuition/School Fee being paid by Students of the University presently. What the university has done is to increase the payment of acceptance fee from Ten Thousand Naira (#10,000.00) only to Twenty Thousand Naira (#20,000.00) only payable once by candidates recently offered provisional admission by the university. It must be mentioned that the payment of the Twenty Thousand Naira (#20,000.00) acceptance fee remains the cheapest in Nigeria compared to what other universities receive as their acceptance fee. The University Management however, wishes to reiterate that there is no increment in Tuition/School fees, neither are there plans to effect any increment. Members of the University Community, students and the General Public are urged to disregard any information to the contrary. Please be wary of mischief makers trying to incite and create unnecessary tension in the university.”
