Over 30,000
litres of Premium Motor Spirit allegedly stolen from a broken pipeline
in the Atlas Cove area of Lagos have been recovered by operatives of
the Nigerian Navy.
The
pipeline, it was gathered, was supposed to be protected by a security
outfit, using members of local vigilante group, but the security company
allegedly decided to help itself by puncturing it and siphoning
petroleum products.
The petroleum products were imported by the NNPC.
Sunday
Sun learnt that operatives of the Nigerian Navy acting on information,
stormed the area and recovered thousands of 25 litres jerrycan filled
with petrol and being prepared for transportation to Benin Republic. It
was further learnt that the local security outfit on sighting the naval
operatives opened fire on them, a move, which angered the Naval men who
returned fire. The continuous shooting jolted the villagers who ran for
cover.
No life was lost in the shooting, which lasted for hours, but the naval operatives succeeded in over powering the fuel thieves.
